Son percusión
This cd is the result of the idea of experimenting, using my own methods and creativity, with a very beautiful mexican traditional music from Veracruz, Mexico, called "son jarocho". This music is very special because it has its own instruments, like multiple size guitars called "jaranas" (for rythm) and "requintos" (for melody and solos) and its own percusions like the "tarima"(wooden floor witch is used as a percusion by the feet of women dancing "zapateado") and the "quijada" (a donkey jaw that is used as a "güiro") they also sing, men and women, with beautiful lyrics, when they play in the "fandangos" (big celebrations in witch huge amount of people play, dance and sing all night) they improvise as they sing about what is happening among them and without loosing the rime. This music has remained very pure and unexperimented with and has very strong roots, a lot of feeling in it. The first step for making this cd was to record 10 traditional "sones" (songs) one by one, intrument by instrument (normal anywhere but not on "son jarocho") in compatible metronome marks, then a lot of editing and after that the creative part, in witch i experimented by overposing, and combining the audios with each other, mixing audios from difrent "sones", making politonal songs, messing with time also by puting 4/4 and 6/8 together, seeking athmospheres, creating new sounds by processing the material with delays, reverbs and other studio effects, never adding any exteral audio materials, seeking the esencial "sound" of this music distanciating with the original, but without loosing sight of it.
