The inspiration for an artist's music can come from almost anywhere - childhood musical influences, social background, and everything in between. Whatever it ends up being, the result is different for everyone.
For one young man, the result is creativity and vision unheard in this new era of hip hop.
" My rhymes and my music are about what really goes on everyday in urban America.
Every ghetto is basically the same, I'm just telling it from my point of view," says 4eleven.
"I grew up half my life in Compton, the other half in South Gate, so I've experienced two very similar but also different points of view." He started rapping at the age of 8, but never recorded anything until about 1999.In his initial phase, he was lucky enough to work with some serious and talented artist's from various genres.
The list included reggae musicians, Andrew Tosh and Eek-A-Mouse as well as well known producers from the San Diego scene O.F.I. and Royal Honor. But this was only the beginning. As things moved on, so did his professional experience and contacts. "I had to come back to L.A. and take everything back to the drawing board. There were a lot of shady people when I was out there alone so I had to come back and regroup. Got my crew right, and started my own company. It's the only way to go," he says. He hooked up with prestigious producer T-nut (Snoop Dogg, The Eastsidas, Suga Free,) as well as assembling a team of unknown but very talented producers. Presently he is lucky enough to be working with Bird, a producer whose esteemed credits include Ras Kass's Soul On Ice album, work with WC of Westside Connection, Too $hort, and music for the FUBU commercials.
When one listens to 4eleven's material, one can hear his various musical influences in a very extraordinary way. From West to East coast, from Rakim to 2pac,Ice Cube to Kool G. Rap, it is all put together to create his very own unique style. One begs to wonder why it has taken this long for his music to come out, and now that it is out, you can just tell he will be headed directly to the top. A sit down with him makes you a believer of everything this charismatic young man tells you he is about to accomplish." I feel like I am in a good place with my music. I think my album will sound familiar, yet at the same time sound unlike anything you've never heard before. My music is from the soul, so whether your out in the streets hustlin', doing the school thing, or being a single mom struggling, you're gonna feel it. It's reality music, everybody struggles."
"I feel like I'm gonna take the game to the next level! " he says, and with his talent, perseverance and vision, it seems like he could not be far from wrong.
