BIOGRAPHY
Godonu Kofi Srigboh grew up in a family of mostly boys. They all played a variety of instruments. Under the guidance of his musically talented father, Godonu took " Blekete" drums, made for the family by the father.
Godonu was born in Aflao in the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa. He spent part of his childhood in Lome, Togo, where he was educated in the French system. He later returned to Ghana, where he continued his education in English at the Accra Polytechnic majoring in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. During this time he played an active role as a lead drummer in the cultural activities of the Ewe Association of Lagos Town, a suburb of Accra.
Godonu spent some time in Europe, where he understudied some of the up and coming young African musicians in France and Spain. He immigrated to Toronto, Canada in the latter part of 1986. In 1988, he joined the Ewe Multicultural Association of Ontario (E.M.A.O.) and became a member of the Association's culture group. The cultural group performed at many social functions, thereby providing Godonu with the opportunity to hone his drumming skills. In 1995 he was elected the Entertainment Co-coordinator of the Association. This position gave him the opportunity to teach others Ewe traditional drumming and dancing.
Godonu is also a composer and singer. He writes lyrics in his mother tongue Ewe, a language spoken in the Volta Region of Ghana, the southern part of Togo and the Republic of Benin. Godonu translates some of his lyrics into English, French, Spanish, Ga and Twi. He had his debut CD "EMEFA" ---- ALL IS CALM and currently working hard on his second CD,"CAN WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!" Godonu's music is a blend of the varied rhythms of Ewe traditional drumming such as Akpalu, Akpese, Agbadza, Borborbor, Gahu, Kantata, Kinka to name a few. All these varied rhythms put together makes the "SOOGOO MUSIC". The group is called "EGBEVIWO" ----THE NEW GENERATION.
