Moonlight On The Mountain

I'm thinking about what kind of music this is. People always ask me "What kind of music do you play?" I never know what to tell them. Where can I be pigeon-holed so my music might be marketed to people who need labels to tell them if it fits in with what their perception of good is. Let's see - some rock n roll, pop, rock, and blues - how about I make up my own term. I'll call it "Boomusic", as in Baby Boomer Music. Actually, I love most music (notice I said music) and I'm counting on the fact that most "Baby Boomers" were exposed to and appreciate a wide range of styles, from the 30's through today. The main criteria are melody, mood, beat and rhythm and words. That's what I hope to achieve here. You won't find any screaming, headbanging, nasty or unintelligible words or sugar-coated sentiments. No juvenile love songs or cry- in- your- beer sorrow-drowning ballads about mothers, pickup trucks or trains. The nearest established category might be

Americana, but let's just give it a zippy name like "Boomusic", "Busic" or maybe just "Boom" - it has a catchy ring to it. I've got all kinds of people to thank for their influence - Jerry Jeff, Guy, Woody, Eric, Ken, Don, Donald, Bob, Jesse, Gordon - you know who you are (maybe not since only a couple of you know me). Also, a lot more people who I don't know, but I've heard your music just the same.
Ever since I can remember, music has been the focal point of my life. I don't remember my exact age, probably about 3 or 4, but I was listening to Frankie Lane sing "Moonlight Gambler" on the radio, it was night and moonlight was actually streaming in through our window onto the floor. That music, the melody and lyric hook, haunted me for years. I remember "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem", sung on a street corner and it was night and it was snowing in the streetlight. Listening to WLS or WCFL on the radio growing up near Chicago, low, at night to fall asleep. These and countless other scenes are what music brings to my life. Music invokes these mind photos, these vignettes that define who I am and what I hold dear and how I remember and find meaning in life. So to all those artists and musicians who have provided those beautiful, haunting melodies and lyrics, the soul shaking rhythms and song scenes, thank you.
