Lucky So and So

Jazz vocalist, Kay Andreas (aka Kay Kostopoulos), is a classical actress and teacher of Drama at Stanford University. Kay sings in English, Spanish, French, Italian and Greek, in the style of “Pink Martini”. A former belly dancer, she plays expert percussion and finger cymbals, adding a new layer of exotic riffs to jazz standards, “Old Black Magic, Whatever Lola Wants, Besame Mucho and Passion Flower”. Kay has always been attentive to rhythm, range, and textural meaning in her teaching and acting. Middle Eastern riffs and Shakespearean texts have helped to inform her delivery of the complex time, sensitive lyrics and multiple shades of jazz. Her theatrical background lends an emotional sensitivity to her lush and sensuous three octave range. Black Olive Jazz plays Standards, Swing, Latin and Blues with a Mediterranean flavor. Our CD, Black Magic, has received airplay on the Bay Area jazz station, KCSM.

Her bonus cuts, “Daddy, Daddy, Change Change Change and Bony Modal” are original tunes written for her performance at Stanford Summer Theatre, in “The Lover” a play by Harold Pinter. Kay does Finger Snaps and Retro-50’s scats with Baby-Doll Vocals!
