SHORTY&SLIM is a pleasing blend of Calypso, Reggae, and Caribbean sounds with a touch of Rock-n-Roll, and has best been described as “Canal Zone Folk Musicâ€!! Conceived in a Gamboa living room in 1992 and later captured on 4 CD productions, (Life on Mango Street ‘95, Gone Platano ‘97, ‘Tird One ‘99, and Down to Panama ‘06) it is written all about Panama and the Canal Zone by Panamanian Zonians, and it’s the only musical production of its kind to truly capture the sights, sounds and experiences of living in or visiting the beautiful Paradise of Panama and the Canal Zone. It is Original, feel-good music that will make you laugh, cry and remember the days.
TIRD ONE (Baysian pronunciation for "Third") is just that: Shorty&Slim's third release. It was recorded once again at nights and on long weekend sessions (Alex was working in Colon again) and amongst the moving boxes and mayhem that was the Seitz family's big move from Panama to Germany because the American Canal Zone was shutting down. Recorded in the most relaxing atmosphere of Evan Rodaniche's MasterBlaster Studio in Corozal Panama, the guys tried some new things on this CD with ladies background vocals ala-Bob Marley-style, and their first Spanish song "Me Voy!". Time constraints put a limit on the recording, however, but S&S were still able to put out a memorable CD. (The last few songs were arranged in Dave's empty house, but nice reverb!) It seemed like the next day after the last song was recorded, Dave and family were on a plane leaving their homeland behind.
The TIRD ONE is regarded as a "going away" album by Shorty and Slim. The lively songs have melancholy undertones about the uncertain future of the Canal Zone, as the TRANSFERENCIA of the waterway was right around the corner and hundreds of families were being uprooted from Panama because of it. At the time of the completion of the recording, Dave and Alex had no idea how or when another CD was going to be produced, and they left the future of Shorty&Slim in the hands of the Lord...
