“Resonance”, Allison Girvan’s debut CD collaboration with award winning composer/arranger (and husband) Don Macdonald, combines traditional music from around the world with beautiful new arrangements that honour the timelessness of both the tunes and the lyrics.

“Even though these songs were written hundreds of years ago in many different languages, it is so easy to hear in them the common thread of our humanity,” says Girvan. “ Time and again the lyrics express loss, hope and love. They explore the realm of dreams and prophecy. These are all emotions and desires which transcend time and culture.”

Allison’s vocal talent and easy-going personality have earned her the respect and support of many wonderful Canadian musicians who are featured on the CD – Vancouver based musicians; percussionist Joseph (Pepe) Danza, cellist Peggy Lee, bassoonist Anthony Averay, and Toronto guitarist Bill Bridges (Quartetto Gelato, Bowfire, former music director for John McDermott).

Allison Girvan - Vocalist

Allison Girvan's music career has seen experience as a professional singer, arranger, and director. She has been a featured soloist on recordings and in performance with ensembles including musica intima, Elektra Women's Choir, The Vancouver Chamber Choir, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and a vocalist for studio sessions for radio, T.V. and feature film.

In 1993, Allison met Canadian Celtic Tenor, John McDermott and began a music relationship that has seen her involvement is several recordings, international tours, and the PBS special, "A Time to Remember". She now lives in Nelson, B.C. where she continues to record for television and feature film scores.

Don Macdonald - Performer/Arranger/Producer

Don Macdonald has a multifaceted musical career that includes professional performing on saxophone, violin and voice and his conducting resume includes work with symphony orchestra, choir and jazz band. His composition credits include music for theatre, dance, published vocal arrangements and forays into everything from jazz and electronica to avante garde classical music.

Don has scored music for films featured at all the major film festivals and in 2000 his score for Cannes Film Festival winner "Shoes Off" was recognized as "one of the most compelling original scores attached to any Canadian film, ever......" (Vancouver Province). In 2006 he scored the feature film "Fido" starring Carrie Anne Moss (The Matrix) distributed by Lions Gate. The score was recorded in Prague with the Prague Filmharmonic Orchestra. The soundtrack will be availble of June of 2007.
